9/12 Game Eagles -vs- Bears

October 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hey Everyone,

Saturday was a great day for football and a great afternoon for the boys of Eagles Football!  There was definitely a hint of football weather in the air, overcast, cool, and a little rain.  Perfect football weather to keep the boys fresh and cool.

The boys overcame a slow start in the first half and BC’s second half scoring drive to later dominate the game.  The O-line started opening up holes in the second half and Tony found them!  The first half was a bit slow although the boys put together a great scoring drive on their second possession.  I believe we burned 10 plays on that drive that ended in a touch down pass to Tony.  The key play on the drive was a 4th down conversion when Colten found Timmy Ritter open on the right side and completed the pass for a first down.  Zach Lingk showed some toughness gaining tough yards up the middle and Jack Thiele made some nice runs throughout the game as well.

This week we have focused on blocking assignments and defensive “jobs”.  Watching the game film continues to show us many things we need to work on.  Blocking assignments is definitely one that is high on the priority list.  Not only with the O-line kids but also with the running backs as well.  I believe we have much of this ironed out for the upcoming game with Green Mountain but as we all know not all defenses play the same!  We will also continue to work on running better pass routes with both the backs and tight ends as we look to incorporate more of the passing game as the year goes on.

This is a good group of boys and we continue to see improvement in all of them.  We have six weeks of practice behind us and all of the boys are showing much improvement.  We will continue to get better as the season moves forward.

Remember boys, this is all we ask of you.  Get better everyday in everything you do!  Honor your parents, respect your teachers, fellow classmates, and coaches.  Be a good example to others everyday!

9/5 Game Eagles -vs- BC Bisons

September 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hey Everyone,

Wow!  Sounds like the great, hard fought game we thought it would be!  Wish I was there but I was being kept up to speed via text message. Sounds as though the kids responded well after they found out this was the BC3 team that had so much trouble last year.  I trust the coaches, parents, and kids of BC where well behaved this year.  From the feed back I’ve been getting it sounds that way.

Tough one to lose.  Even though I wasn’t there I was very proud of the boys as it sounded like they fought hard.  Once they went down at the end of the first half it was time for them to show what they were made of and they did.  To come back and take the lead into the fourth quarter is a huge deal.  All we can ask is to have a chance to win late in the fourth and that opportunity was there!  We just didn’t finish the deal but there was great effort by all.  I believe we will meet this team again later in the year and we will get another shot, hopefully the outcome will be different.  This BC team is a good team and I see the makings of a friendly rivalry.  Last year I don’t believe I could have used the word friendly but I believe things have changed.  Its a new year for us and them.

As usual, I’m sure the coaches saw many things we need to work on to continue getting better.  We will address those things this week beginning on Tuesday.  Hopefully I will be back on Monday and will be looking at game film Monday night!  (no pressure Rick)

I’m proud of the boys as this game could have been close, as it was, or because of the intimidation factor the boys felt from this team, it could have gone bad.  The boys stepped over a big hurdle today even though it ended in a lose.  They over came the intimidation factor and now they know that they need not be intimidated by anyone!  We also have a group of good, tough, football players!  Hold your heads high boys, practice like a champion, play like a champion, and act like a champion!!

Remember boys, get better in everything you do. Get better in school and on the football field.  Honor your parents, respect your teachers, fellow classmates and coaches.  Be a good example to others!
