Hey Everyone,
Well the weather finally jumped up and bit us as this game was pushed back by one week. This day was a great day for football although I bet the boys wouldn’t have minded playing in the snow last weekend.
What a great game by two evenly matched teams! The boys played very well with the difference being two extra points that the Bulldogs scored and the two that we did not score. 14-12, thats pretty evenly matched!
We knew this would be a good game as this SJ team had waited almost an entire year to meet us after we beat them in the Carnation Bowl last year. I will take nothing away from this SJ team as they are very well coached and have great kids on their team just as we do. There was great effort shown by both teams on both sides of the ball. This game came down to field position and who made the fewest mistakes. Unfortunately we lost the field position battle and we had one mistake on kickoff return. Who would have thought that ball would stop and go sideways on that kick? Crazy!
The defense made a tremendous goal line stand to keep us in the game and give us a chance. We moved the ball to mid field but could not convert on the 4th down play and all that was left was for SJ to take a knee.
Overall the boys played well and put up a good fight. There are many positives to take away from a game like this and we will learn from both the positives and negatives and move forward. The season goes on and we will continue to work hard with the boys. We may get another chance at this SJ team later this year and we look forward to whats ahead of us.
As a coach we see many things during the game and on game film. This game film helps us to teach the kids and is a valuable tool used to help the kids get better. As a coach I also have the opportunity to see what plays I call and learn from the things I see that I do. This may have been the weakest game I’ve called offensively all year. I will learn from it, move forward, and get better!
I’m very proud of the boys of Eagles Football. They showed great heart and determination. They should hold their heads high even in defeat! We will move forward and get better!
Remember boys, get better everyday in everything you do, school, at home, and football. Honor your parents, respect your teachers, fellow classmates, and coaches. Be a good example to others everyday! This is all we ask.
Great Job Boys,
READY! READY!….EAGLES FOOTBALL!!
